he was born october 13, 1957 in hampton, va. he was born into a military family and traveled frequently. In 1975, he graduated from denbigh high school in newport news. he attended norfolk state for a bit before beginning his professionl music career.
he is a four-time grammy winner with bela fleck and the flecktones. he played the drumitar (an electric instrument he created). he also invented the royel.
